Jerald "Jerry" Conner Obituary

Jerald "Jerry" R. Conner, 93, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away on July 16, 2022, at Transcendent HealthCare in Owensville, IN. He was born to the late John and Mary (DeVault) Conner on March 13, 1929, in Fort Branch, IN.

Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. He worked on the railroad, for what is now called CSX, for over ten years, then started a job over-the-road trucking with Stoops Trucking. He and his wife, Bert, worked there together the last 4 years with the company so she could go with him on the road. He was a lifetime member of the Fort Branch VFW post #2714 and the Haubstadt American Legion post #194. He loved to garden and pitch washers. He was a lifetime member of a washer club and attended numerous washer tournaments of which he won a large trophy proving his skill at the game.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by, his son, Jeffrey Conner; daughter, Theresa Conner; sons-in-law, Brett French and Bill Reinhart; and grandson, Zachary Bailey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Alberta “Bert” Conner of Fort Branch, IN; 5 children, Micki (Ron) Lemke of Parkersburg, IL, Vicki Reinhart of Baker, LA, Cindy (Jim) Martin of Fort Branch, IN, Vanessa (Danny) Huntzinger of Huntingburg, IN, and Jackie (Randy) Wheaton of Fort Branch, IN; brother, John L. (Rosemary) Conner of Fort Branch, IN; 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 16 great great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at 4:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch with Pastor Steve Akins officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Military Honors service will be performed by the Veterans of Gibson County at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at the funeral home. Donations in his honor can be made to the American Cancer Society.
