Margaret Phillips Obituary

Margaret June Phillips, 86, passed away at Walnut Creek Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Evansville, IN, on January 29, 2023. She was born to the late James Chester and Mabel (Walker) Upton on June 20, 1936 in Evansville, IN.

June was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Henderson, KY. She graduated from Reitz Memorial High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Evansville. She worked as a high school accounting and business teacher for 25 years and retired from Henderson County Schools. Some of her favorite times were spent playing bridge, reading, crafting, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed doing volunteer work for Community Methodist Hospital and First United Methodist Church in Henderson.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Charles Robert Phillips in 2017.

She is survived by her children, Melinda (TJ) Kackowski of Brownsburg, IN and Kim (Neal) Mathias of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Mitchell and Rachael Mathias, Ted (Taylor) Kackowski, Elizabeth (Andy) Cala and Emma Kackowski; great grandchildren, Lilly and Dottie Cala; and sister-in-law, Nancy Harper of Fort Branch, IN.

Services will be private per family request. Burial will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Fort Branch, IN. Donations in her honor can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and the First United Methodist Church of Henderson. Expressions of sympathy can be made at stodghillfuneralhome.com.
