Robert E. Maier, Jr., 88, of Fort Branch, IN, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on December 12, 2021. He was born to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Wilm) Maier on December 11, 1933, in Haubstadt, IN.
Robert was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch. He was a 1951 graduate of Haubstadt High School, and a 2-year veteran of the U.S. Army stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a truck driver for Emge Packing Company for 42 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion and went on the Honor Flight of Southern Indiana in 2018. He loved watching all sports and was a die-hard Cardinals fan. He enjoyed fishing and playing clabber.
Besides his parents, he was preceded by his loving wife, Georgia (Mayer) Maier in 1993; his daughter, Susan Thompson in July of 2021; brothers, Virgil Maier and Jim Maier; sister-in-law, Rosemary Maier; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth “Bud” Meny and Tom Williams.
Robert is survived by his 2 children, Stan Maier of Fort Branch, IN and Sandy (Kirk) Waiz of Newburgh, IN: son-in-law, Brian Thompson of Newburgh, IN; siblings, Elvira Meny of Haubstadt, IN, Norma Williams of Haubstadt, IN, Sister Mary Beth Maier of Ferdinand, IN, Mary (Ed) May of Haubstadt, IN, and Ed (Becky) Maier of Evansville, IN; and 4 grandchildren, Andrew Waiz, Justin Waiz, Megan (Tony) DeMartino, and Samantha (Jessica) Oak.
The family wants to thank his Hospice nurses, Angie, Kara, Trisha and the rest of the Hospice Team.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch with Father Luke Hassler as celebrant. Visitation will be on Friday, December 17, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a recitation of the Rosary at 2:45 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home and again on Saturday, December 18, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. until service time at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Military Honors services will be performed by the Veterans of Gibson County and include a walk-through at the church prior to mass. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Honor Flight of Southern Indiana or Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand, IN.
