Florence Rose (Elpers) Kissel, 94, of Haubstadt, passed away on Feb. 29, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. She was born on Oct. 25, 1925 to the late Peter and Cecilia (Hormuth) Elpers in Gibson County. Besides her parents, she is preceded by her husband of 65 years, Leo Kissel; a grandson, Derek Deer; and 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
Florence was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Haubstadt and the St. James Alter Society. Florence helped alongside her husband at Leo Kissel Home Construction, loved quilting, crocheting, clabber, gardening, and canning.
Florence is survived by her children, Mildred (John) Vollman of Evansville, Ken (Marlene) Kissel of St. Wendel, Marilyn (Jim) Kern of Haubstadt, Martha (Dan) Deer of Haubstadt, Mary (Brian) Akin of St. Petersburg, FL; 14 grandchildren, Matthew Vollman, Julie Newton, Jeff Kissel, Gregg Kissel, Brent Kissel, Ethan Kern, Johnna Kern, Eli Kern, Philip Deer, Tyler Deer, Justin Deer, Jamie Luhring, Cassaundra Carter and Christopher Hisch; and 24 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Haubstadt with Father Kenneth Betz as celebrant. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch and again on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home. A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Haubstadt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. James Catholic Church.
